Ingredients To Make Sweet Potato Dumplings

  • 2 can crescent rolls
  • 1 pkg sweet potato patties
  • 2 cup sugar
  • 2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 stick butter
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 – 2 tablespoon cinnamon (for sprinkling on top)

Step By Step Instructions To Make Sweet Potato Dumplings

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350° Fahrenheit. Cut each potato patty in half.

Step 2

Take the crescent rolls out of the package and unroll them. Divide the triangles into two parts. On the wide end of each triangle, place a sweet potato patty.

Step 3

Make sure you tuck the ends of each sweet potato half when you roll them up in the crescent roll. It’s okay if the sweet potatoes aren’t completely covered, they don’t have to be perfect or sealed.

Step 4

Once the crescent rolls have been rolled up, place them in a 9×13″ glass baking dish with the pointy end facing downward.

Step 5

Combine the water, sugar, and cornstarch in a saucepan. Mix well. You can now add the butter. Stir occasionally until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves over medium heat.

Step 6

Take the pan off the heat and add the vanilla extract. Add the sugar mixture to the dumplings and mix well. Add cinnamon to the top.

Step 7

Bake for about 35 to 40 minutes at 350°F in a preheated oven.  Before serving, let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Enjoy!

Tips For The Perfect Sweet Potato Dumplings

There are a few things to keep in mind when making sweet potato dumplings.

  • Add a bit of salt to the dough to help bring out the sweetness of the potatoes.
  • Add the right amount of sugar. Too much sugar will make the dumplings too sweet, and not enough sugar will make them bland.
  • Make sure the sweet potatoes are cooked all the way through before adding them to the dough. Otherwise, they won’t cook evenly and will be difficult to work with.
  • Don’t overcook the dumplings – they should be light and fluffy, not tough and chewy.
