Ingredients To Make Porto’s Cheese Roll

  • 1 puff pastry (prepared)
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons raw sugar
  • 2 tablespoon butter (melted)
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 tablespoon water

Step By Step Instructions To Make Porto’s Cheese Roll

Step 1

Prepare your puff pastry by rolling it out on a lightly floured surface. The size should be approximately 12″ x 12″. Divide your pastries lengthwise into three sections so that they measure approximately 4″ x 12″.

Step 2

Using a mixer on high speed, beat your cream cheese until it becomes creamy and smooth. Then add the eggs, vanilla, powdered sugar, and all-purpose flour. Combine until the lumps are gone.

Step 3

Pour the cream cheese mixture into a piping bag or plastic bag and cut the corner off.

Step 4

Mix one egg white with about two tablespoons of water in a small bowl. Make sure you whisk well.

Step 5

With the cream cheese mixture in your piping bag, pipe a thick line down the center of the first puff pastry. Fold one side of your puff pastry onto your cream cheese as soon as your line of cream cheese is finished.

Step 6

Use egg wash to brush the top of your first fold and the remaining third. Once the remaining third has been brushed with egg, fold it over the cream cheese line that has already been folded. Cut each pastry roll diagonally into four slices.

Step 7

Place each pastry section on a cookie sheet that has been lightly greased. Then place in the oven and Bake for 15 to 25 minutes at 400°.

Step 8

Add melted butter or powdered sugar to the top of your rolls once they have slightly cooled. If you prefer a thicker glaze, mix powdered sugar with a little milk, stir until it’s combined, then add more powdered sugar or milk until it’s the consistency you desire. Enjoy!
